Safety First
It takes courage to make new friends. It takes bravery to try new adventures.
That’s why Sidekick’s commitment to your personal safety is second-to-none. It’s hard enough to put yourself out there. The last thing you need is additional worry about your physical and mental safety.
But you’ve got this. And Sidekick has your back.
ONLINE SAFETY
What Sidekick Does
- Prohibits anyone under age 17 from using the app.
- Verifies every user’s phone and
- Restricts users’ ability to have more than one account.
- Actively patrols the app to uncover and eliminate hate speech and bigotry of any kind.
- Aggressively enforces our rules of good conduct (and bans repeat violators).
What You Can Do
- Set a good example by being as authentic as possible and treating everyone you meet with the dignity and respect we all deserve. If we all strive to fill the app with positive energy, we can create a unique environment where everyone feels welcome and safe.
- Take the extra step of becoming “ID Verified” so everyone will know you are exactly who you say you are. And try to limit your interactions with anyone who isn’t willing to submit to this extra level of security. It’s the best way to rid the app of catfishing, bots and other bad behavior. [This feature is coming soon]
- Report any rude or obnoxious behavior immediately and in detail – [email protected]. Let our experts handle the situation for you. And be sure to tell us about any ghosting behaviors. That kind of disrespect is not okay.
IRL SAFETY
As you know, the Sidekick app isn’t just about finding your people. It’s about doing the things you love (with them) – in real life. So be sure to follow these best practices to ensure that all of your adventures are a great success:
- Report anything suspicious. Tell us right away if you encounter any rude or inappropriate behavior – [email protected]. And don’t be afraid to call the police if that’s what’s the situation requires.
- Start off with a group Kickit. When you’re sharing a common interest, three’s never a crowd. And four (or more) can be quite the party!
- Use public spaces. It’s best to meet for the first time in well-traveled (and well-lit) locations.
- Organize your own transportation. Never share a ride with someone you don’t know. Take public transportation or drive yourself. Always have a way out.
- Keep your private information private. Don’t share the details of where you live. And never send money or share financial information.
- Let a friend know. Tell your friends and family members what you’re up to and who you’re meeting. Make sure your phone is handy and always keep your location services turned on.
- Don’t leave your drinks or personal items unattended. Always remain in control of your personal space. And feel free to enlist the aid of nearby advocates (like bartenders or security personnel) if you feel at all threatened.
- Don’t rush. Take your time, keep your head, and stay aware of your surroundings.
- Trust your gut. If something feels off, just leave. And always remember that it’s okay to say no. No one will blame you if you err on the side of safety.
The world can be a strange yet beautiful place, whether we encounter it online or up close and personal. But by working together and remaining diligent, we can maximize the chances that your next adventure will be a joy, and your next connection a friend. Let’s make the Sidekick world a safe and open-hearted one.
